1. This Order may be cited as the

Refugee Act, 1996

(Section 24(1)) (Commencement) Order, 1996.

2. The 1st day of October, 1996, is hereby fixed as the day on which

section 24

(1) of the

Refugee Act, 1996

(No. 17 of 1996), shall come into operation for the purpose of regulation 14(2) of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Regulations, 1956 (

S.I. No. 216 of 1956

), (inserted by the Irish Nationality and Citizenship (Fees) Regulations, 1996 (

S.I. No. 291 of 1996

)).

Explanatory Note

This order brings into operation

Section 24

(1) of the

Refugee Act, 1996

, which is mentioned in the recently enacted Irish Nationality and Citizenship Regulations 1996, for the purposes of defining the term "programme refugee".
