Statutory Text (4 Articles)
1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Trade in Livestock Semen) Regulations, 1995.
2. In these Regulations "semen" means the ejaculate of cattle, water buffalo, equidae, sheep, goats and swine.
3. The provisions of sections 4 and 5 of the Livestock (Artificial Insemination) Act, 1947 (No. 32 of 1947), shall not apply to persons importing semen from or exporting semen to another Member State of the European Communities for the purposes of Council Directive No. 88/407/EEC of 14 June 1988

EXPLANATORY NOTE.
(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)
These Regulations, which give legal effect to a number of Council Directives concerning, inter alia, trade in animal semen, provide for the removal of the licensing requirement set out in the Livestock (Artificial Insemination) Act, 1947 where semen is imported or exported for the purposes of the Directives.
