S.I. No. 291/1990 - European Communities (Radio Interference From Fluorescent Lighting Luminaires) (Amendment) Regulations, 1990.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Radio Interference from Fluorescent Lighting Luminaires) (Amendment) Regulations, 1990.

2. The European Communities (Radio Interference from Fluorescent Lighting Luminaires) Regulations, 1979 (

S.I. No. 171 of 1979

), are hereby amended—

(

a

) in paragraph (1) of Regulation 2, by the substitution for the definition of "the Council Directive" of the following

"'the Council Directive' means Council Directive 76/890/EEC of 4th November, 1976, as amended by Commission Directive 87/310/EEC of 3rd June, 1987;",

and

(

b

) by the substitution for Regulation 7 (inserted by the European Communities (Radio Interference from Fluorescent Lighting Luminaires) (Amendment) Regulations, 1983 (

)) of the following

"7. Examinations, tests and measurements for the purpose of verifying compliance with the Council Directive shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Annex to the Council Directive.".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of these Regulations is to give legal effect to Commission Directive 87/310/EEC. This Directive has the effect of replacing the Annex to an earlier Council Directive (76/890/EEC) and was necessary because of improvements to the technical requirements for compliance with the Directive. Both Directives aim at the harmonisation of the laws of E.C. member states relating to the suppression of radio interference caused by fluorescent lighting luminaires fitted with starters.
