1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Agricultural or Forestry Tractors Type Approval) Regulations, 1983, and shall come into operation on the 30th day of September, 1983.

2. The following Schedule is hereby substituted for Schedule I to the European Communities (Agricultural or Forestry Tractors Type Approval) Regulations, 1979 (

S.I. No. 137 of 1979

Wheeled agricultural or forestry tractors which are equipped with pneumatic tyres and which have at least two axles, a maximum design speed of between 6 and 30 KM/h and a minimum fixed or variable drive axle track width of 1150mm or more or a track width of 1250mm or more.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Regulations implement the provisions of Council Directive 82/890/EEC and Commission Directives 82/953/EEC and 83/190/EEC relating to the type approval of agricultural and forestry tractors and their component parts by including tractors with more than two axles, by increasing the maximum design speed from 25 to 30 kilometres per hour, and by amending the provisions in regard to the characteristics and testing procedures for roll-over protection (static testing) and the driver's seat.
