1. This Order may be cited as the

Local Government Act, 1955

(Commencement) Order, 1983.

Section 18

of the

Local Government Act, 1955

shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1983.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order brings into operation

section 18

of the

Local Government Act, 1955

, which provides for the amendment of

section 27

of the

Local Government Act, 1941

. The effect of the amendment is that only the appropriate Minister may now suspend an officer of a local authority under

section 27

of the

Local Government Act, 1941

and that the power of local authorities to suspend officers can only be effected under regulations made pursuant to

section 19

of the

Local Government Act, 1941

as amended by

section 14

of the

Local Government Act, 1955

.
