S.I. No. 106/1978 - Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1978.

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1978.

(2) The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 to 1976, and these Regulations may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 to 1978.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 3rd day of April, 1978.

3. The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 as amended by the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1967 and 1976 are hereby amended by—

(

a

) the substitution in article 4 (2) (

b

) (ii) of "18p" for "13p" and "15p" for "10p" and

(

b

) the substitution in article 5 (3) (

a

) of "6p" for "4p".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1953 to 1976, include provision for the payment of special rate employers' contributions in respect of persons employed on foreign-going ships or ships engaged in regular trade on foreign stations. The occupational injuries insurance portion of the weekly contributions for such persons was, as a result of the

Social Welfare Act, 1978

, increased by 5p as from 3 April, 1978. The occupational injuries contributions are paid into the Social Insurance Fund in the first instance and subsequently transferred to the Occupational Injuries Fund.

These Regulations amend the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1953 to 1976, so as to provide for the transfer of the new contributions from the Social Insurance Fund to the Occupational Injuries Fund and also to provide for an increase of 2p in the occupational injuries insurance contribution rate for Civil Servants.
