EXPLANATORY NOTE.

Under the Social Welfare Acts increases of pension or old age (care) allowances are payable in respect of precribed relatives who provide full-time care and attention to certain incapacitated old persons.

These Regulations provide that credited employment contributions may be awarded to such prescribed relatives, on the cessation of the increase or allowance, for each week for which the increase or allowance was payable, provided that the person concerned had had an employment contribution paid or credited in respect of him in either of the two complete contribution years immediately preceding the date from which the increase or allowance was payable.

The credits so awarded will ensure continuity of insurance for persons who may have given up insurable employment to look after an incapacitated relative.
