S.I. No. 71/1966 - Coinage (Dimensions and Designs) (Silver Coin in Respect of the Year 1966) Regulations, 1966.

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Coinage (Dimensions and Designs) (Silver Coin in respect of the Year 1966) Regulations, 1966.

(2) The Coinage (Dimensions and Designs) Regulations, 1951 (

S.I. No. 137 of 1951

), and these Regulations may be cited together as the Coinage (Dimensions and Designs) Regulations, 1951 and 1966.

2. These Regulations apply to the silver coin to be provided under

section 5

(1) of the

Coinage Act, 1950

(No. 32 of 1950), as amended by

section 2

(

a

) of the

Coinage (Amendment) Act, 1966

(No. 5 of 1966) (hereinafter referred to as the coin).

3. The diameter of the coin shall be 1.2 inches.

4. The coin shall have for the obverse impression a potrait of P. H. Pearse with the inscription

and the date 1966.

5. The coin shall have for the reverse impression a design of the statue of the legendary Irish hero Cuchulainn with the inscription

6. The edge of the coin shall be plain and have inscribed thereon in incised characters the words

1916 ".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations prescribe the design and dimension of the special commemorative coin of the denomination of ten shillings being issued by the Central Bank on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Rising of Easter Week, 1916.
