Legislator summary

AI generated

The Supreme Court allowed the imposition of a fine on defendants who were previously acquitted of a minor offense. Although the lower courts had found them not guilty under the law at the time of the incident, the new Criminal Code and the Fine Act came into force after the acquittal but before the fine was imposed. The court ruled that the new legislation applied retroactively to the specific act, permitting the fine despite the prior acquittal.
