The Supreme Court of Finland ruled that unemployment benefits received by an employee must be deducted when calculating damages for wrongful dismissal. The employer argued that only net income should be considered, while the employee contended that gross income was the correct baseline. The court decided that since unemployment benefits replace lost wages, they constitute part of the actual income loss and must be accounted for in the compensation calculation.
