The Administrative Court dismissed the mother's appeal regarding her child's name 'Pieta', which the registrar rejected as a male name under Finnish practice. Although the court noted the name was given to 260 girls and 2 boys, it found no statutory reason to alter the registrar's decision. Consequently, the court upheld the registrar's ruling that the name did not meet legal requirements for a male name.

Kirkkoherra ei ollut hyväksynyt nimeä Pieta poikalapsen

etunimeksi, koska nimi suomalaisen käytännön mukaan oli

naisennimi. Rekisteritoimisto hylkäsi oikaisuvaatimuksen

nimilain 32 b §:n nojalla.

Lääninoikeus hylkäsi huoltajana olevan lapsen äidin valituksen.

Asiassa esitetyn selvityksen mukaan Suomessa oli

annettu nimi Pieta 258 tytölle ja 2 pojalle. Tähän nähden

Pieta nimeä oli pidettävä naisennimenä. Kun Pieta nimen

antamiselle ei ollut esitetty laissa edellytettyä syytä,

ei rekisteritoimiston päätöstä ollut syytä muuttaa.
