The Constitutional Court accepted a formal request for a judge's abstention from a military appeal case. The petitioner, César Varela Boira, challenged a military court sentence through an amparo remedy, but the assigned judge, Cándido Conde-Pumpido Tourón, withdrew citing a statutory cause of abstention. The court ruled that the judge's withdrawal was justified under the Organic Law of the Judiciary, thereby removing the judge from the case.
