che il 22 giugno 2011 A.A.________ e B.A.________ hanno presentato al Tribunale federale un ricorso contro la sentenza emanata il 16 maggio 2011 dalla III Camera civile del Tribunale d'appello del Cantone Ticino;

che con scritto del 22 agosto 2011 i ricorrenti hanno dichiarato di ritirare il ricorso;

che il presidente della Corte, o il giudice dell'istruzione, decide quale giudice unico circa lo stralcio delle cause ritirate ( art. 32 cpv. 1 e 2 LTF ) e, in tale ambito, statuisce sulle spese giudiziarie ( art. 5 cpv. 2 PC in relazione con l' art. 71 LTF );

che le spese giudiziarie sono poste a carico dei ricorrenti ( art. 66 cpv. 1 LTF );

per questi motivi, la Presidente decreta:

1. La causa è stralciata dai ruoli a seguito del ritiro del ricorso.

2. Le spese giudiziarie di fr. 300.-- sono poste a carico dei ricorrenti.

3. Comunicazione alle parti e alla III Camera civile del Tribunale d'appello del Cantone Ticino.
